Visionary
Sensing™
A novel sensing technique that mimics the way our eyes perceive color — one dual-use platform that detects greenhouse gas emissions for environmental monitoring and aerosolized chemical threats for defense, with biological threat detection in active development, all from a distance and without complex optics or lab-style equipment.
One Platform. Two Missions.
Aether was born from FedTech's Homeland Security Startup Studio to give the warfighter and first responder a better way to detect aerosolized threats. That same biomimetic architecture — built and matured with one of the U.S. Government's premier national defense laboratories — now also serves the commercial and environmental sector, continuously monitoring greenhouse gas emissions. One sensor platform, engineered once and fielded twice: for national defense, and for the planet.
Protect the Warfighter
Detect aerosolized chemical warfare agents and toxic industrial chemicals at standoff range — with a biological aerosol trigger variant currently in development — giving military and first-responder teams a low false-alarm, low-SWaP alternative to legacy laser-based triggers.
Safeguard the Environment
Continuously monitor methane and other greenhouse gas emissions at the source — from agricultural operations to industrial facilities — giving operators and regulators accurate, real-time data instead of periodic snapshots.
Enable Dual-Use Innovation
One optical architecture, two markets. Sharing R&D and manufacturing scale across defense and commercial applications keeps unit costs down and accelerates capability on both sides.
Biomimetic Architecture, Engineered for Precision
The human eye discerns about one million colors using three types of cone cells — each registering roughly 100 shades, yielding around one million combinations. Working with one of the U.S. Government's premier national defense laboratories, Aether developed a sensor that mimics this exact biological architecture.
Biomimetic Architecture
Our Visionary Sensors™ replicate the trichromatic process of human vision — processing multiple spectral channels simultaneously to 'see' chemical gas signatures the way eyes see color.
Spectral Signatures
Every gas and aerosol interacts with infrared light differently. By analyzing absorption and scattering profiles across our multi-channel array, we identify chemical and — in ongoing development — biological signatures with precision, from methane to chemical warfare agents to aerosolized biological threats.
Completely Passive Standoff
No laser, no active illumination, no complex optics. Aether's biomimetic approach results in a completely passive standoff sensor — ideally suited for continuous monitoring in the harshest environments.
Continuous. Passive. Precise.
Most monitoring solutions today require a sensor carried by a person, aircraft, or satellite to take a momentary snapshot. That snapshot is then aggregated with others to form an extrapolated assessment — meaning the operator has to guess whether the snapshot was taken at the right place and time. Aether's Visionary Sensors™ are cost-effective, SWaP-C optimized, completely passive, and provide continuous monitoring — not snapshots.
Standoff Detection
Detect and measure gases from a distance without entering the hot zone, with no complex optics or lab-style equipment required.
Simultaneous Multi-Threat Detection
Identify multiple gas species and aerosol threats concurrently. Fielded for methane today — actively expanding to chemical warfare agents and, in development, aerosolized biological threats.
SWaP-C Optimized
Dramatically less expensive than currently fielded monitoring equipment. Easier to operate, easier to maintain, and deployable in the harshest environments with minimal training.
One Platform. Two Markets.
Aether's sensor architecture is built for dual use: the same biomimetic core that gives defense customers a low-SWaP way to trigger on aerosolized chemical and biological threats also gives commercial and environmental customers continuous, low-cost greenhouse gas monitoring.
Military & Security
On the modern battlefield and front lines of homeland defense, forces face threats from chemical warfare agents, toxic industrial chemicals, and aerosolized biological agents. Aether's defense sensors — including a biological aerosol trigger variant currently in development — offer significantly reduced cost of ownership and SWaP optimization versus legacy laser-based triggers.
- Chemical warfare agent detection
- Aerosolized biological threat triggering (in development)
- Compatible with small UAVs & robotic platforms
- Unattended ground sensor deployment
Environmental & Agricultural Monitoring
Ideally suited for cattle operations, poultry farms, manure ponds, rice paddies, and landfills. Designed to be as close to 'set it and forget it' as possible, giving operators continuous data instead of periodic snapshots.
- Cattle & poultry operations
- Manure pond monitoring
- Landfill methane compliance
- Rice paddy emissions tracking
Industrial & Smart City
Easily adapts to a wide range of industrial and smart city uses, forming the basis of a distributed point cloud for advanced chemical detection.
- Distributed IoT sensor networks
- Compliance monitoring
- Anomaly detection
- Air quality management
Because Accuracy Saves Lives.
Whether it's a chemical or biological release on the battlefield, or a methane leak at a remote facility, you cannot rely on slow point-sensors or statistical modeling. You need to see the threat directly, instantly, and unequivocally.
We are shifting the paradigm from 'guessing' to 'seeing' — providing definitive optical proof of invisible threats at the speed of light.
